Tinnitus and Hyperacusis Clinic Minnesota

I've had tinnitus for many years due to a career in the Auto Body Business and as I got older it started to bother me more and more. I talked to several doctors including an ENT and was told the same thing "You just have to learn to live with it". Well I started looking online and came to the Tinnitus Clinic in Edina and started reading about sound therapy and thought "what have I got to lose" so I made an appointment even though I live 150 miles away I was desperate....

I had hyperacusis for at least nine years. It made my life miserable in many places. High frequency noises like shopping carts squeaking in grocery stores, chain-links jangling on the playground swings, automobile brakes shrieking, utensils clanking and whining fluorescent lights were excruciatingly painful to me. Noise levels that did not bother other people sounded deafening to me.
I tried a listening program to treat the hyperacusis, but it only gave me temporary tinnitus. Several nutritional supplements that my mom make me try were ineffective...

I wanted to drop you a short note and tell you about my Tinnitus treatment to date. It has been approximately 5 months since I begin the treatment using the Neuromonics method prescribed by you.  I have now moved to the second phase of the treatment and it seems to be progressing smoothly.
As you recall, I was diagnosed with sudden on-set tinnitus in January of this year. (2007) Prior to meeting with you and your staff I was getting no help from my health care providers, They pretty much said “learn to live with it, there is nothing we can do for you”  Finally after visiting with University of Minnesota doctors, they recommend your clinic to me. ..

It has been six months since I first contacted Audiology Concepts and Tinnitus and Hyperacusis Clinic about Neuromonics. At the time, I was not able to sleep and suffered from a complete lack of hope to the point of ending up in the emergency room. My tinnitus had overtaken me to the point of despair.
After visiting with the friendly and trust-inspiring staff at the Tinnitus and Hyperacusis Clinic, I was at least able to see some light at the end of a very long tunnel. I followed the process laid out for me and within a few weeks, started noticing some relief. With consistent use of the processor and a few more visits, I gradually relearned to live with a reduced level of tinnitus. My treatment still goes on and I am optimistic that continued progress with follow.
I recognize Neuromonics is not a cure for tinnitus, but it seems to be the most effective treatment out there. I think of it as "despair repair". My thanks go out to the wonderful staff at Audiology Concepts and the Tinnitus and Hyperacusis Clinic for all their dedicated care.

I love my job as a first grade teacher. In thirty seconds my life changed when I had a headache that was unbelievable. Two days later, I found out that I had a sudden hearing loss in the right ear and then the ringing. That loud, annoying ringing in my ears was so hard to take. The doctor put me on steroids and then told me to live with the ringing. I couldn’t stand it. My audiologist decided to give me a list of someone who is a specialist in tinnitus. That was when I went to Dr. Paula Schwartz and she recommended Neuromonics Tinnitus Treatment. I had to do something and after nine months of using Neuromonics, I got my life back and loving my job even more. I find it easier to concentrate at my job and can sleep through the night. I have control of tinnitus and it does not have control of me.

Thank you Tinnitus and Hyperacusis Clinic for helping me gain control and relief from my tinnitus. I had been to a different clinic and tried several "miracle" cures (pills, etc) with no success. I lost hope that there was anything that would work.  At a routine physical I mentioned it again to my doctor who suggested I see Dr. Schwartz. It has been 8 months since I was first seen at The Tinnitus and Hyperacusis Clinic. The first visit I left feeling so relieved that there was help for the constant ringing I had been experiencing for over 4 years. Your staff educated me on tinnitus and helped me choose the best treatment option for my lifestyle. I was fit with "dual device" by ReSound because I also have mild hearing loss, so I have received benefit from both hearing better and tinnitus therapy. On a scale from 1-10, with 10 being the worst possible my tinnitus has gone from a 10 to a 2.
Thank you Tinnitus and Hyperacusis Clinic for changing my life!

What started out as a little ringing in my ears turned into a loud nonstop roar in the spring of 1997. After a visit to the Dr. I learned it had a name, tinnitus, and it was untreatable so I should just learn to live with it. As yime went by I could no longer tolerate any loud sounds which made every aspect of my life miserable. We made a visit to the Mayo Clinic where the Dr. told me and I quote "just turn up the radio so you don't hear the ringing". It now seemed totally opeless so I tried anything out there such as acupuncture, herbal, remedies, massage therapy, chiropractic visits, maskers, TRT therapy, hearing aids, antidepressants, nothing helped and the more things I tried the more hopeless it seemed...

Thank you for your kindness in taking my hearing seriously, explaining how varied they are, and offering approaches that might help. The Brookstone sound system has made a big difference. My brother doesn't mind having the "stream" playing, which has made meals much more relaxed and pleasant. We often leave some sound on all day, which is soothing for any offending noise.  Instead of feeling trapped and panicky, I can take action to make the challenging situation more comfortable. It seems to have a ripple effect on the 4S; even without the White noise, I feel more tolerant of annoying sounds.
Gratefully,
N.M.

Who says one has to suffer with tinnitus 24/7? I am a staunch supporter of the Neuromonics System. I had tinnitus and I felt helpless. I just woke up with it one day. By luck, someone recommended the Tinnitus and Hyperacusis Clinic to me where I was informed about the options to treat tinnitus...
